Women’s shelter ravaged by fire

A shelter for women in difficulty in the Rosemont district of Montreal was ravaged by flames on Monday.

The fire, which started around 8:45 a.m. on the first floor of the building, caused the evacuation of 37 people, all of whom were treated by the Red Cross.

The blaze was brought under control at the beginning of the afternoon, said Émilie Barbeau-Charlebois, section head at the Montreal Fire Safety Service (SIM).

At the height of the fire, 150 firefighters were battling the blaze. The two-story building suffered significant damage.

According to the SIM, it is still too early to determine the cause of the fire.
