Women’s rugby: a banner that Rouge et Or was missing

Crowned Canadian champion in November 2019, the Laval University Rouge et Or women’s rugby team had escaped the provincial banner that year. She remedied the situation Friday night in Quebec City by winning 27-17 against the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees.

“It feels good, we deserve the victory,” commented head coach Kevin Rouet on the Rouge et Or website. We played really well tonight (Friday). Yes we were thinking of the Canadian Championship, but we absolutely needed this banner. We have missed her for 10 years. ”

With the disappointment of the last three provincial finals in the lead, the Rouge et Or had their revenge by beating the Gee-Gees. The streak of consecutive provincial championships for the representatives of Ottawa, in women’s rugby, was thus stopped at six.

The Rouge et Or, like the Gee-Gees, will now take part in the Canadian Championships in Kingston, Ont., Starting Wednesday.
