The team’s coach, Evgeny Bobariko, revealed to the RIA Novosti news agency that Polina Bolgareva had received a positive diagnosis.
The striker played the entire match against Canada, which started more than an hour late because the ROC team had not obtained the results of drug tests carried out earlier in the day.
The match could begin when both teams agreed to wear KN95 protective masks, which the Canadians kept on for the entire match. The Russians withdrew theirs early in the third period.
Bobariko explained that the team learned of the positive test after returning to the Olympic Village after the game.
The Russian squad has eight players unavailable in Beijing due to the virus and another player remained in Moscow after testing positive.
