(Lille) Canada lost 79-70 to Nigeria and was eliminated from the women’s basketball tournament at the Paris Olympics on Sunday.
The Unifolié representatives did not win in their three preliminary round matches and finished at the bottom of their group, which also included France and Australia.
Shay Colley had 17 points for Canada, which committed no fewer than 26 turnovers.
Nigeria (2-1) saw Ezinne Kalu score 21 points, while Elizabeth Balogun added 14.
The Nigerians put a lot of pressure on the Canadians early in the game, forcing several turnovers and taking a 10-2 lead midway through the first quarter. They then went on a 15-point run in the third quarter.
Canada entered the tournament ranked fifth in the world and was expected to challenge for a spot on the podium.
