(Killington) The Killington women’s giant slalom event counting towards the Alpine Skiing World Cup standings was canceled on Saturday due to bad weather.
This meeting in the state of Vermont was to mark the return of the Women’s Alpine Skiing World Cup to North America for the first time in two years.
However, after nine competitors completed the first heat, the race was suspended due to strong winds and snow. Then, half an hour later, the jury and the organizers decided to cancel the competition in which Canadian Valérie Grenier was entered.
The last to bemoan the decision was probably American Mikaela Shiffrin. Encouraged by a partisan crowd, Shiffrin set the slowest time among the skiers who could take the start.
Her time had left her 1.38 seconds behind the French Tessa Worley, who was in first place at the time.
A slalom must take place on Sunday at the same place.
