Women and alcohol, a subject for a long time comic

This audience of 1965 laughs well. Annie Cordy is a fresh blonde young star and she staggers onto the stage singing Six roses, which is the most famous song in our heritage about a woman’s alcoholism.

However, we told you about it on France Info, the documentary Alcohol for women, aired last Wednesday, December 8, on France 2, seemed to be a revelation, if we are to believe the reactions to it, just like – last month – the documentary series Women who drink, with our friends from France Culture.

And we can understand this astonishment when we explore the representations of feminine alcohol in our popular culture.

In the first episode of These songs that make the news this weekend, you hear excerpts from:

Annie Cordy, Six roses, 1965

Sheila, Baby you made me drink too much tonight, 1970

Lina Margy, Ah the little white wine, [1945

Anne Sylvestre, My grandfather Louis, 1967

Annabel Buffet, My bistro, 1969

Celine Caussimon, Small room for a kitchen, 1999

Emeline Tout Court, La Pochtronne, 2017

Juliet, At the bottom of my bottle, 2013

Emeline Tout Court, La Pochtronne, 2017

Remember: during the summer of 2019, La Playlist de Françoise Hardy was a journey through the musical baggage of an author, composer and performer considered to be the arbiter of the elegance of pop in France.

In July and August 2017, we spent Un été en Souchon, during which Alain Souchon guided us on a tasty walk through a lifetime of love for song.

All summer 2016, in the company of Vincent Delerm, we wandered around in La Playlist amoureuse de la chanson, truant exploration of popular heritage. You can also extend the delicacies of this summer column with the French song lover dictionary, co-published by Plon and franceinfo.
