A man with a long criminal record has been charged with the murder of Linda Salagan, a 64-year-old woman found dead last month in her apartment in Lachine, Montreal.
The Major Crimes Section of the Montreal Police Department (SPVM) arrested Anthony Curotte on Tuesday afternoon. The 28-year-old man, accused of premeditated murder, appeared in court on Wednesday morning.
The victim, in her sixties, was found dead at home on July 29 in a residential building on the 32e Avenue, in Lachine. It was 21e murder to occur in the metropolis this year. According to the first information available at the time of the events, she was killed a few days before the sad discovery.
Anthony Curotte, the suspect, has a long criminal record. He was sentenced to two months in prison last year after pleading guilty to assault.
The alleged murderer also has a history of domestic violence, obstructing a peace officer, drug possession and breaching conditions.
He had been released in early July – two weeks before the victim’s death – in a court case in which he is accused of breaching a restraining order. He is also accused in other cases of breaking and entering with intent and criminal harassment.
He is said to have lived in LaSalle and Kahnawake, according to available court documents.
The motive for the crime is unknown at this time. According to our information, Linda Salagan was associated with the drug scene in the past. She had pleaded guilty to a charge of drug possession in 2018.
