“Woke” left, “woke” right

“Wokism”, this ideology that emanates from a reaction to the racism suffered by African-Americans, has drifted into a global phenomenon that now embraces all forms of injustice affecting minority groups. This phenomenon, which joins a new left, opposes the latter to a right which perceives a breach in the foundations of so-called traditional society.

Among our neighbors to the south, the Democratic Party, more open to this new trend woke, stands out from the Trumpist Republicans who want to rally the heterosexual white majority against this new identity phenomenon. As we know, wokism tends to define the individual according to their racial, sexual and cultural identities. This debate has spilled over from American borders to find itself in other Western countries, including Quebec, which is the scene of confrontations on this issue.

We obviously have to vehemently condemn the instrumentalization of the right, which uses this new current to maintain and even accentuate a certain status quo imbued with rigidity. […].

However, these advances of a new left experience inexcusable overflows in the means used to support this thesis which too often leads to the excesses of the cancel culture. Indeed, these new moral censors refuse the debates to introduce rather an arbitrariness based on uneasiness felt following the use of certain words or during exposed situations. This led to an insidious form of censorship in the academic, literary and other worlds, even going so far as to eradicate from history certain events or controversial figures who did not go along with the new moralizing diktat.

Faced with this choice of society, we could suggest a way through to untie this Gordian knot. The use of the word “from now on”, as a line of demarcation between a past mirroring its time which has the right to exist and a present which would take into account the evolution of a society centered on new values, could contribute to reintroduce dialogue between the antagonistic parties.
