WNBA | Caitlin Clark chosen rookie of the year, an almost unanimous choice

(New York) Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever was almost unanimously chosen WNBA Rookie of the Year on Thursday.

She obtained 66 of the 67 votes, in a poll conducted among journalists and sports commentators.

The other vote went to Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese.

Number 1 pick in the draft (Iowa), Clark led the circuit with an average of 8.4 assists per game, in addition to posting 19.2 points per game.

She helped the circuit set attendance records.

The Fever won just one of their first nine games, going 20-20.

“I’m hard on myself. I would say I’ve been solid this season, Clark said after the Fever were knocked out in the first round by the Connecticut Sun last week.

“I find that I’m only just beginning to tap into my potential, and at the same time I’m worrying about all kinds of little things.

“I think I can grow a lot more, which is exciting. »

Clark was the East’s Player of the Month for August, Player of the Week three times and Rookie of the Month four times.

She signed two games where her points, assists and rebounds were in double figures, while there had never been such a game from a rookie in the league.

Clark became the first rookie to record a game with at least 30 points and 10 assists.

Clark led the WNBA with 122 three-pointers. In terms of free throws, she finished second with a success rate of 90.6%.

Indiana finished atop the league in crowds, both at home and away.

The club’s averages in this regard were 17,036 people at home and more than 15,000 in other cities.
