For two years and the start of the health crisis, the French have never bought so much on Internetwith a 42% increase between 2019 and 2021. Soaring gasoline prices are pushing consumers even more to order online and have them delivered to pick-up points near their homes. Moreover, the latter are multiplying.

Behind the counter of a bakery in Étampes (Essone)the parcels move back and forth. For the past year, the shop has not been content to sell breads and pastries. It is also a relay point, and here, customers have quickly joined. That lets come on foot as it is nearby. It avoids having to drive 10 km or 5 km to pick up a package“, testifies a resident. In the back of the shop, between sacks of flour and kneading machine, the owner collects dozens of parcels every day.

The activity only brings in a few hundred euros per month for the bakery, but these parcels are so many more passages in front of the pastries in the shop. In the town center of Étampes, in recent years, relay points multiplied: eight are now active. A trend driven by the ever greater success of sales on Internet. Last year in France, online sales increased by 15%.
