The clock in the living room stopped at 3:40. That was the time when a Russian missile landed in the garden of the family home of Natalia and Alexandre, two Ukrainians who live 15 kilometers from the border recently conquered by kyiv. “It happened on the night of August 14thNatalia tells franceinfo. The blast from the explosion blew the house away. Everything is destroyed: the house, the garage, the shed, the outdoor kitchen, the cellar… I have no words.”
Natalia and her husband take us into what remains of this little red brick house. “Be careful, it could fall on you”Natalia warns. Inside, there is rubble everywhere and sections of collapsed walls. It is lucky that there were only two minor injuries that night. And now there is hope for the couple, that fear will change sides with this Ukrainian operation on Russian soil.
It has been two weeks now since the Ukrainians entered Russia, in the Kursk region. kyiv controls about 1,200 km² of Russian land. “Our leaders did well to move the war into enemy territory so that the Russians would understand what we feel with their shooting and bombing.”explains Alexandre.
“I think that there, in Russia, of course people are also suffering: parents, children and mothers. But it was the Russians who decided to kill our children first.”

“They are the ones who came to exterminate us, to kill us, to ruin us”explains Alexandre. “Now we are the ones who are advancing on the front lines and it is only fair”Natalia continues. One of the goals of the Ukrainian operation in Russia is to protect civilians from strikes by pushing the enemy back into its territory.
But for the moment, the daily life of Alexander and Natalia has not really changed. “There are more gliding bombs and missile strikes at the moment, says Alexander. The artillery, it was pushed back, yes. We are less worried about that… But what will really relieve us is the victory!” “Forward! To Moscow!”exclaims Natalia, before concluding with a smile: “Like Napoleon at the time.”
