In an exclusive 18-page interview published Thursday, June 23 in the newspaper The Team, Zinédine Zidane takes stock of his career, on the occasion of his 50th birthday. The former playmaker of the Blues, winner of the 1998 World Cup with the French football team, is looking for a new challenge. Now a coach, without a club since May 2021 and his departure from Real Madrid with whom he won the 2016, 2017 and 2020 Champions Leagues, he confides in the possibility of seeing him one day on the bench of Paris Saint-Germain or on that of the Blues.

“With the France team, it’s not over”promises in particular Zizou who ended his international career with his famous whim to the Italian Marco Materazzi, during the final of the 2006 World Cup lost on penalties. “Thierry Gilardi was right with the comments: ‘Not like that…’ But there it is. It’s like that. That’s why I say that with the France team, it’s not over.”

“Somehow, I don’t want to end up like this. It’s not over.”

Sent a few days ago to Paris Saint-Germain by certain rumours, the one who was born in Marseille considers that “this is absolutely irrelevant” but that“never say never”, “especially when you are a coach today”. “When I was a player, I had a choice, almost all the clubs. As a coach, there are not fifty clubs where I can go. There are two or three possibilities. This is the current reality. If I go back to a club, it’s to win. That’s why I can’t go anywhere.”
