With the energy crisis, the French are flocking to firewood pellets

The French Federation of Combustibles, Fuels and Heating (FF3C) is concerned about an “abnormally high” demand for firewood pellets this Friday, August 26. Against a backdrop of fears of energy shortages and price increases, it fears a “supply deficit of 5 to 15%” and recommends that consumers who are not yet equipped to postpone their stove and boiler installation projects. to wood.

“While the installation of stoves or boilers running on wood pellets continues at a steady pace, the current demand for wood pellets is abnormally high”details the French Federation of fuels, fuels and heating made up of 300 pellet distributors in metropolitan France. “Fears of energy shortages are worrying consumers who are stocking up and rushing to buy wood pellets before winter”.

Prioritize distribution and encourage postponing installations

Depending on the extent of the deficit and the severity of the winter, the Federation plans to prioritize the distribution “to ensure deliveries to regular customers, particularly those whose only source of heating is wood pellets”. It also recommends that consumers “to defer new installation projects that have not yet been completed” and “not to make any online order payment before delivery if they do not know their supplier”. According to figures from the FF3C, the market in volume of wood pellets is estimated at 2.4 million tonnes for next winter, compared to 2 million last winter and 1.8 million in 2020/2021.
