With the cancer of King Charles III, “the royal family finds itself reduced to its simplest expression”estimated Stéphane Bern on franceinfo Monday February 5. “This is a completely new situation among the Windsors”added the journalist specializing in royal families.

“We realize how we lack manpower, in a way, in the royal family to respond to all requests for sponsorship, patronage and all official ceremonies”, explains Stéphane Bern. He first mentions the cancer of King Charles III, even if the latter will not give up his activities. But there is also the recent hospitalization of Kate Middleton and Prince Harry who left to live in the United States. Not counting Charles III’s brother, the Duke of York, who is “out because of the Epstein affair […] There remains Queen Camilla, 77, who is obliged to be on all fronts: visiting hospitals, nurseries, retirement homes, inaugurating plaques and hedges, cutting ribbons.

This situation is “unpublished” for the British royal family, which was provoked by King Charles III, according to Stéphane Bern, who “in a desire for transparency, cost reduction and efficiency of the monarchy”wanted “bringing the family together around a hard core”. The rest of the available family is too young. “It poses a real problemnotes the specialist journalist. By dint of having pruned the collateral branches of the family tree, well, only the trunk remains. And the trunk is a little in poor health, to use a very royal image.”
