with reshuffled teams, Aiglons and Phocéens parting back to back

Three days after their last match in the league, Nice and Marseille replayed, Wednesday October 27, the match interrupted last August 22 and counting for the third day of Ligue 1. While the Aiglons had opened the scoring at the start of the game by the intermediary of Amine Gouiri, the Marseillais equalized thanks to Dimitri Payet (1-1). Christophe Galtier and Jorge Sampaoli, each deprived of several players, had decided to rotate their workforce.

Two months after the incidents at the Allianz Riviera, Niçois and Marseillais met in Troyes, on neutral ground and behind closed doors, to replay the meeting which had been interrupted. And if the Nice anthem sounded at the entrance of the players, the Aube stadium sounded hollow on Wednesday evening. Only the cries of joy coming from the sidelines broke the silence, as on Amine Gouiri’s goal from the 6th minute.

The sixth achievement of the Nice striker this season came to materialize a good start to the game for the Aiglons. Thanks to a high pressing, Hassane Kamara, rarely holder, recovered the ball to pass it on to Evann Guessand, who himself found Amine Gouiri, for the opener. Providential scorer against Olympique Lyonnais, Guessand achieved a full match for his first start. The young 20-year-old striker weighed on the Marseille defense and did not hesitate to make his power speak on several breakthroughs in the opposing camp. In the absence of Andy Delort, unqualified because he had not yet signed in Nice during the initial meeting, and Kasper Dolberg, returned to Denmark due to personal problems, he certainly scored points with Christophe Galtier before going out on injury shortly before the hour mark.

Barely during the first half hour, the Marseillais relied on Dimitri Payet to equalize shortly before half-time. On a cross from Gerson, Milik intelligently let the ball pass, pushed to the back of the net by the number ten from Reunion, author of his sixth achievement this season.

In the second half, the Phocéens set their foot on the ball, in turn applying high pressure. At the heart of the game, Pape Gueye, replacing in the last league games, was invaluable in the recovery (9 balls recovered) and in his transmissions (92% of successful passes). But despite a slight domination, the Phocéens worried little about the Nice defense.

This draw is synonymous with the status quo in the standings, between the two teams who are neck and neck. Nice remains third and is ahead of OM by one point.
