In his latest film, “Irréductible”, Jérôme Commandeur tells the story of a man who dreams of becoming a civil servant. With a schoolboy and intelligent humor, he depicts the average Frenchman in a caricatural way, but highlighting his singularity.
Little Pelletier went after his little dream: he became a civil servant, in the hunting license service. A little crafty, a bit mediocre. When everything changes, Vincent Pelletier’s life collapses. Jérôme Commandeur draws, in Irreducible, his portrait of an average Frenchman, that of a caricature. “It’s about us, French. It means grumpy, always against the tide. And at the same time we are also the country of Abbé Pierre and Coluche. So it’s all this mosaic of things that I tried to convey in the film, which makes our color and the fact that we are unique“, he confides.
For the first time in his life, Vincent Pelletier rebels. Punished, he is transferred to the North Pole, it is the beginning of the embarrassment. In this schoolboy comedy, everyone is a bit petty and selfish. “It really is his strength. It’s really hilarious, everyone takes it for its rank and at the same time it’s jubilant, intelligent and disrespectful. It’s important to be able to laugh again and again today“, considers the actress Pascale Arbillot. During this peregrinations, the civil servant Pelletier will discover the world a world much larger than his small universe.
