The results of a new study on water pollution on the beaches of Pas-de-Calais highlight their significant pollution, particularly due to wastewater. The association advises against swimming there, like other beaches in Hauts-de-France.

It is one of the most popular beaches on the Opal Coast, but perhaps also one of the most polluted. In any case, this is what an environmental association says, which advises avoiding Wissant beach (Pas-de-Calais) due to regular bacteria pollution. On the sand, the news stunned the regulars. “We find that the water is perfectly fine, we have never been sick”points out one of them, just out of the water.

Wissant, but also Dunkirk, or Calais… In Hauts-de-France, half of the beaches should be avoided according to this study. At the national level, 5% of beaches would be affected, of which one in five is considered not recommended. Results obtained from official samples taken by regional health authorities. But the Eaux et rivières de Bretagne association has developed its own indicator, more precise in its opinion. Pollution linked mainly to wastewater and effluent from livestock farming which flows into the sea.
