The Minister of Solidarity and Families was the guest of “8h30 franceinfo”, Friday September 22, 2023.
Aurore Bergé, Minister of Solidarity and Families, was the guest of “8:30 a.m. franceinfo”, Friday September 22, 2023. Wintzenheim fire, private daycare centers, migration crisis, police violence… She answered questions from Jean-Rémi Baudot and Agathe Lambret.
Wintzenheim fire: “There was a general malfunction”
“What the Igas report demonstrates is that, if we are very lucid and very honest, there is a general dysfunction”,says Aurore Bergé. “The tragedy of Wintzenheim highlighted the way in which these holidays were not sufficiently supervised, standardized and thought out”, according to the minister. An administrative investigation by the General Inspectorate of Social Affairs (Igas) was opened following the fire which caused the death of 11 people in Wintzenheim (Haut-Rhin), on August 9.
Private nurseries: Aurore Bergé reflects on “the four-day week”
“We need to think about a new organization of working time. A four-day week, for example, in this type of profession, would obviously make sense”declares Aurore Bergé, two weeks after the publication of two investigative books reporting the mistreatment of young children in certain private daycare centers. “The real issue we have is a shortage of professionals,” underlines the minister. “From January 1, we put 200 million euros on the table each year to revalue” early childhood professions, which have not been “revalued, not recognized enough” during “years”she recalls.
Migrants: “It is our responsibility to guarantee a welcome and to set limits”
“Our responsibility as leaders is both to guarantee this generosity and this welcome but also to once again put limits on it”assures Aurore Bergé, while Pope Francis is expected in Marseille for a two-day visit devoted to the Mediterranean and the migratory challenge. “It’s a recurring message that the Pope has always given about the capacity we have to be in a world that is more open, more generous”underlined the minister.
Talking about police violence amounts to “putting a target on the back” of the police
“To combine the term ‘police violence’ and ‘racism’ means discrediting an entire profession by pointing the finger at the police, putting a target on their backs and saying that they are racist”says the Minister of Solidarity, Aurore Bergé. “This is not the case”, she adds on the eve of demonstrations against police violence. Some of these marches also have the slogan “fight against systemic racism”.
