After the spring temperatures of the last few weeks, several motorists were taken by surprise Sunday morning by snow and winter road conditions.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) confirmed that there were several road accidents throughout the province on Sunday morning.
For its part, the Quebec Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility announced the complete closure of Route 175, which crosses the Laurentides wildlife reserve, between kilometers 144 and 226 due to “difficult weather conditions”.
Traffic was also hampered between kilometers 74 and 144 during the day.
At the beginning of the afternoon, Québec 511 confirmed the complete reopening of the road which connects Saguenay to the northern outskirts of Quebec.

According to police spokesperson Catherine Bernard, the higher number of accidents can be explained by the weather conditions. With snow warnings across Quebec, the roads are snowy and slippery while visibility can be more difficult at times.

“Adapt your driving to changing road conditions. If visibility is reduced while you are driving, slow down, watch the taillights of vehicles in front of you, and be ready to stop,” Environment Canada reminded.
