The 34-year-old southpaw had lost nine of his previous 10 ATP finals, including three in a row, since winning his first title in 2019 on the grass of Rosmalen.

World number 65, Mannarino won 83% of his first-serve points. He thus won his first ATP final since losing the Astana Open to Australian John Millman in November 2020.

Mannarino won the first set after 75 minutes.

Mannarino, who will spend the next week at the 45e place in the standings, became the oldest champion in the history of the tournament and the first Frenchman to win the title.

“My body isn’t responding as well as when I was 20, but I’m still operational,” Mannarino said.

“This title is for my whole team as well as for me,” he said.

“It was a great week with a lot of tough games,” said Djere, 89e.

Mannarino will face Dutchman Gijs Brouwer, 184e, in the first round of the United States Open. Djere’s first game at the US Open is against No. 9 seed Andrey Rublev.
