You are no doubt aware that the electrification movement is also beginning to be observed in recreational vehicles. Well, here’s a new vehicle that should catch your eye.
This week at a major RV show in Tampa, Florida, Winnebago unveiled an all-electric RV concept that’s far more successful and compelling than its first attempt presented four years ago. It also looks very close to a production model.
The Winnebago e-RV is indeed fully operational, also using the chassis (with suspension) and bodywork of the Ford Transit. We are not talking about the new electric variant of the latter (E-Transit), because Winnebago has instead chosen to call on a company called Lightning e Motors to equip its vehicle with a tailor-made electrical system.
The 86 kWh battery that is included would be able to offer a range of around 200 kilometres. Obviously, that’s not much for an RV. However, according to his research, Winnebago estimates that 54% of RV owners do no more than 200 miles per day. In addition, recharging via a DC fast terminal (up to 80% capacity) would take 45 minutes.
As for the amenities on board, let’s mention a modern refrigerator, a sliding induction hob (safer than a gas stove) and a complete bathroom with toilet and shower. Carpets and cabinets are mostly made of eco-responsible materials, including a mix of rubber and recycled cork for the floor.
Winnebago has not yet specified its plans to bring electric RVs to market. More details will follow in 2022.
