Novelties and classics to revisit, events and ephemeral activities… Each week, the Plaisirs book informs you of gourmet news not to be missed. And just a few days before Christmas, here are some great suggestions for all-purpose wines that will be unanimous around a good table!

1. Terrier Two Roches Burgundy Tradition 2020

Here is a burgundy that does not go unnoticed! The Domaine Deux Roches is located in Davayé with a view of the Roches de Solutré and Vergisson, two limestone escarpments. The Terrier and Collovray families who produce this wine were therefore inspired by these geological particularities to name their cuvée. On soils that are specific to the great wines of Burgundy, this wine is produced from a blend of several plots of the Mâconnais vineyard. It is a well-balanced wine, generous on the palate and offering a lot of freshness. We take pleasure in tasting it as an aperitif, in a friendly atmosphere. Its notes of white flowers, toasted wheat and yellow apple make it the ideal wine for fish or seafood dishes.

White wine, 750 ml, France, Burgundy. SAQ code: 13959667. Price: $25.60

2. La Chablisienne Chablis Premier Cru Grande Cuvée 2020

What would Christmas be without a good Chablis? This one is a marvel for the price! A premier cru that comes from one of the best wine cooperatives in the world, which is also the largest producer of Chablis. La Grande Cuvée is a blend of plots from several Premier Cru appellation areas. On the palate, its attack is lively, the perception of minerality, the signature of Chablis, is very present. We savor with each sip its finesse and its notes of green apple and lemon. Savor it with soft or goat cheeses or scallops!

White wine, 750 ml, France, Burgundy. SAQ code: 12794178. Price: $32.75.

3. Francis Coppola Diamond Collection Pavilion Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2019

What a nice surprise this wine, whose grapes come from Sonoma and Santa Barbara counties! For those who still think that all American wines are woody and heavy, here is the perfect example of the opposite. Although the wine has aged for nine months in (French) oak barrels, it is above all the brilliance of the fruit and its freshness, and not its woody structure, that steals the show. We are seduced by its beautiful balance, its marked acidity and its predominance of ripe fruit (apricot, yellow apple, peach). Complex and easy to drink at the same time, it is the perfect cuvée to support a Christmas turkey!

White wine, 750 ml, USA, California. SAQ code: 14488908. Price: $26.60.

4. Clarendelle Inspired By Haut Brion

A great success that this Bordeaux, inspired for its development of the famous wines of Haut Brion. For connoisseurs, it is a guarantee of quality. Of course, at around twenty dollars, we are a little more limited on the methods of aging and vinification, but the result is still amazing. It should be added that the chief oenologist of the legendary Bordeaux is the same one who designed this wine. A very elegant cuvée, with complex notes of small black fruits with an aniseed touch. Medium-bodied, this gourmet and drinkable cuvée will be easily served with roast beef, a tourtière or even a grilled turkey.

Red wine, 750 ml, France, Bordeaux. SAQ code: 13313196. Price: $21.60.

5. Domaine La SuffreneBandol

In the land of sun and cicadas, not far from the Mediterranean Sea, is the vineyard of Cédric Gravier, winemaker. To add a little warmth to your holiday table, bet on this generous cuvée with a spicy profile. Made from Mourvèdre (60%) and Grenache (15%) to which a hint of Carignan and Cinsault have been added, the wine is typical of good wines from Provence. Aging in old oak barrels gives it suppleness and roundness despite its full-bodied character. We like its notes of ripe black fruits followed by notes of black pepper. A real comforting balm perfect for your roast lamb or with the traditional cipaille.

Red wine, 750 ml, France, Provence. SAQ code: 14852280. Price: $28.90.

6. Michele Chiarlo Palas Barolo 2018

For a gift as muscular as it is elegant, we offer you this Barolo with complex scents that open with balsamic, chocolate, nutty, aniseed and fruity notes. Producer Michele Chiarlo is an experienced winemaker who has brought Piedmont wines to the international market. This wine comes from vineyards located in the municipalities of Monforte, Verduno and La Morra. It will appeal to lovers of classic Barolos, suave and fleshy with a very present acidity. Perfect for braised lamb shanks, leg of lamb or even meat pie!

Red wine, 750 ml, Italy, Piedmont. SAQ code: 13693627. Price: $39.75.
