A work never performed since its creation in 1900

The Opéra de Saint-Étienne creates the event, by producing: Lancelotby Victorin Joncières.

This great admirer of Wagner experienced an upset destiny, and his work remained forgotten for a long time. Lancelot, on a libretto by Édouard Blau and Louis Gallet, evokes the secret love of the Knight of the Round Table with Queen Guinèvre, which King Arthur will eventually learn. The scene of the lovers’ forgiveness is one of the highlights of this work.

A lyrical drama in four acts and six scenes which is reborn on the Saint-Etienne stage.

The honor of this recreation goes to director Jean-Romain Vesperini, who also recreated Godard’s Dante at the Opéra de Saint-Étienne in 2019, the first revival of the work, 130 years after its creation. . The energy and talent of this director in his forties is matched by the striking personality of the conductor. This role falls to Hervé Niquet: founder and director of the Spiritual Concert, this conductor originally specialized in baroque music confirms his talent for romantic opera.

The artists of today, Thomas Bettinger and Anaïk Morel, will also be admired, taking up roles performed by the great voices of the early 20th century.
