Wimbledon | Carlos Alcaraz beats Daniil Medvedev and returns to the final

(London) Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain reached the Wimbledon final by defeating Russian Daniil Medvedev 6-7 (1), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 on Friday.

After an ordinary first round, Alcaraz found his energy and his attacking game to give himself the chance to win a fourth major title before his 21e birthday.

He was already the first player under 20 to hold the top spot in the ATP rankings and the youngest man to win a major trophy on three surfaces: grass, clay and hard.

The Spaniard is now one win away from joining Boris Becker and Bjorn Borg as the only men in the Open era, which began in 1968, with multiple championships at the All England Club before turning 22.

Alcaraz is 3-0 in career Grand Slam finals. He also triumphed at the 2022 U.S. Open and the French Open last month.

In the final, he will cross swords with Novak Djokovic, holder of 24 Grand Slam titles, or Lorenzo Musetti.

Last year at Wimbledon, Alcaraz knocked out 2021 US Open champion Medvedev in the semi-finals before beating Djokovic in five sets in the final.
