Wimbledon asks spectators to stop having sex in a room designated for prayer

LONDON | Set up for prayer and meditation, a rest room located on the site of the Wimbledon tournament has been used for other, less religious purposes since the start of the tournament.

Spectators told the British newspaper The Guardian to have seen couples come out of this room, also called “the sanctuary”, with very wide smiles.

Others explained that they heard cries there that did not really sound like tennis encouragement.

Stories that clash

These sex stories obviously contrast with the hushed and somewhat stuck-up atmosphere of the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world.

Sally Bolton, the head of the All England Club, the venue where Wimbledon is played, explained to the Telegram that the shrine should remain an important space for the tournament.

“We’re going to make sure people use this very important space the right way,” she said.
