Scotland: immersive Willy Wonka-themed event angers parents
(France 2)
In Scotland, an immersive event on the theme of Willy Wonka, the hero of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, closed its doors prematurely due to the anger of visitors. 40 euros entry, failed services and not even chocolate: the parents are outraged.
It was to be a magical experience inspired by the wonderful world of chocolatier Willy Wonka. But instead, patrons at a pop-up event in Scotland found a near-empty warehouse, decked out with a few cheap decorations. “It doesn’t make me laugh. I paid 40 euros for entry for that”, deplores a visitor. The plastic chocolate river does not impress visitors, and the actors’ hazardous performances even make some children cry.
The organizer promised to reimburse all customers
The actor who played Willy Wonka describes a disastrous organization after the fact. “People were expecting Timothée Chalamet, and they got Timothée Charlatan. The organizers told us to give out one candy per child, and there wasn’t even any chocolate.”, details Paul Connell, actor. Nothing to do with the treat festival promised on the event site. At the exit, a crowd of disgruntled parents attacked the organizers. Faced with the scandal, the organizer promised to reimburse all customers, but many doubt his good faith.
