Serena and Venus Williams have received a bye to the US Open women’s doubles draw and will be a team for the first time in over four years.
Serena Williams announced earlier this month that she is preparing to end her career. Without saying so explicitly, everything indicates that the United States Open will be his last tournament.
Serena Williams will celebrate her 41st birthday in September, while Venus Williams is 42 years old. They have won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together. That includes two triumphs at Flushing Meadows, in 1999 and 2009.
That’s not counting Serena’s 23 major singles titles and Venus’ seven.
The two sisters haven’t played together in doubles since losing the third round of the French Open in 2018.
Since then, Serena has participated in two doubles tournaments with other players. She played with Caroline Wozniacki in January 2020 and with Ons Jabeur last June.
