Two months before the presidential election, are we going to witness a new model of protest called “the freedom convoy”? Several calls have been made on social networks to organize convoys to Paris on Saturday and Brussels on Monday. They are inspired by the mobilization of truckers in Canada against health restrictions.
Trucks blocking the capital Ottawa to protest against sanitary measures is unheard of in Canada. It’s been eleven days now that the truckers have been on the job, in what they call “the convoy of freedom”. Will we see a French convoy appear? For the past few days, a Facebook page, followed by nearly 280,000 people, has been relaying calls to converge on Paris.
Almost all citizens ready to mobilize supported the anti-sanitary pass demonstrations. Some have been Yellow Vests, many are protesting against the cost of living. Six convoys are due to reach Paris on Friday, February 11. Then, direction Brussels (Belgium) on February 11, for a European gathering. Monday, February 7 already, a first convoy was stopped in the Paris region. The first convoys will leave tomorrow from Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales) and Bayonne (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), via the secondary network.
