will there be new miracles at the chapel of Aouach, south of Toulouse?

There are traditions that are not lost. In Fauga, in Muretain (south of Toulouse), the Virgin Mary is celebrated every year for the Assumption. This was the case on Monday August 15, 2022, in the Notre-Dame de l’Aouach chapel, a hamlet attached to the town. The story goes that several miracles have taken place in this building, four in total a long time ago. The faithful love to tell the story and do their best to maintain the chapel dear to their hearts.

Janine Noël, president of the Friends of Notre-Dame de l’Aouach association, is very much in demand. It is she who coordinates the ceremony on August 15, the procession that follows and the traditional auction. She evokes, smiling, what the story tells: “There are four ex-votos which trace the miracles that took place in the chapel. All have a relationship with the Garonne. People who should have drowned and who were saved, miraculousis lying. The last miracle dates back to twenty years ago. A race called Garona started from Muret to Toulouse. One day, a member of the crew (inhabitant of Fauga) fell into the water. When he was picked up, a cardiologist on board said it was over. Well no, he came back to life. The cardiologist advised him to go and put an ex-voto in the chapel, that’s what he did!”.

An auction to maintain the chapel

Miracle or no miracle, all the faithful are convinced of one thing: this so mystical chapel must be maintained and preserved. Thus, each year after the ceremony of August 15, an auction is organized on the forecourt of the chapel. These funds collected will make it possible to restore the paintings present in the latter.

“At the time, people brought chickens, fruit, eels. Eel was an institution! Today, we have more plants, bottles of wine, honey and handmade objects. main” — Robert, from Fauga

Few years ago, major consolidation works of the structure have been undertaken. The chapel, a time closed by the prefecture of Haute-Garonne, was thus able to reopen to the public.
