The spread of the Omicron variant in Great Britain foreshadows what could happen in France. This morning, Martin Hirsch, the Director General of Public Assistance – Paris Hospitals (AP-HP) mentioned the probable arrival of the sixth Omicron wave in January 2022. For Damien Mascret, our health journalist and doctor, that does not matter. no doubt.
Would history repeat itself? Nothing is less certain for our specialist Damien Mascret. According to him, it is possible that the spread of the Omicron virus that Britain is experiencing at the moment could occur in France in January 2022. Indeed, each time a variant has established itself in England, it has become same thing happened in France. First example with the Alpha variant, which was dominant in England last January and which appeared in the same way in March in France. Same case with the Delta variant in June among the English and present in July in France. The Omicron variant would appear to be no exception to this rule.
According to a scenario that was developed and published last Saturday 11 December by Public Health England, hospitalizations in Britain are expected to increase in the coming days. Indeed, although Anglo-Saxons currently record an average of 1,000 hospitalizations per day of patients with the Omicron variant, this figure should rise to 4,500 in January 2022 according to the scenario of this study. Even if this is not the most catastrophic scenario, it remains to be hoped that the Omicron variant is less dangerous than the Delta variant, which would be good news for both countries.
