On social networks, Internet users are outraged because the European Union would like to ban repairs on cars over fifteen years old. This is false and this idea is spread by many anti-European accounts. In their messages, they refer to a proposal from the European Commission which dates from summer 2023. In reality, this regulation does not mention the age of 15. “There is nothing in the proposed legislation that would prohibit the repair of vehicles of a particular age”assures the spokesperson for the European Commission.
Fight against end-of-life vehicle pollution
Several articles in this proposal aim to simplify car repairs. One article, however, concerns owners of cars that no longer work. It shows how to get rid of a car considered beyond repair. This involves fighting against pollution from vehicles at the end of their life. The European Commission’s proposal aims to better identify wrecks, to prevent them from disappearing into nature.
