Will the Mazda CX-50 replace the CX-5?

I am very interested in the Mazda CX-5 because it is on the list of vehicles that could replace my 2013 Ford Escape. However, I saw that Mazda unveiled the CX-50. Will it replace the current CX-5? Thank you kindly enlighten me since I am losing my Latin with the nomenclature of Mazda.

Hello Denise,

Indeed, Mazda unveiled this fall the new CX-50 2023. Longer, wider and stockier than the CX-5, it is added to the current range of the Japanese manufacturer. According to the plans mentioned by Mazda, the CX-50 will rub shoulders with the CX-5. This new SUV is not expected to replace the popular CX-5.

In order to avoid the cannibalization of these two vehicles which, after all, are very similar, Mazda is targeting customers thirsty for adventure with the CX-50. Indeed, while we have never really been interested in consumers who want or need to travel on surfaces other than asphalt, we are attempting a first foray into this universe. Note that the CX-50 is equipped with the Mi-Drive system (Mazda Intelligence Drive Select) which will be able to adjust the behavior of the vehicle according to the road.

You should know that the Mazda CX-50 shares many components with the CX-5. Indeed, in addition to borrowing its platform, it also shares its two mechanics. Buyers can opt for a naturally aspirated or turbocharged version of the 2.5L four-cylinder engine. The transmission is a six-speed automatic.

For the time being, the price range and fuel consumption ratings have not yet been disclosed by Mazda Canada. Although we are already familiar with the components of the new CX-50, we have not yet been able to test this new model.

It should be noted that its production should begin at the beginning of the year 2022 and that it will arrive in concession shortly after.
