Monday December 18 is a decisive day for immigration bill and for the government. In fact, 7 deputies and 7 senators meet within a joint joint commission responsible for adopting a common text. If the CMP manages to find a compromise, the new version of the text will be submitted to Parliament for a vote on Tuesday, December 19. On the other hand, if the latter fails, the government will be forced to withdraw its bill.
After a weekend of discussions between the executive and the Republicans, the general secretary of the LR group, Annie Genevard, and member of the joint committee says she is confident of reaching an agreement this Monday, guest on France Inter. “I believe that an agreement“in CMP”is within our reach” she said. However, the president of the Les Républicains party, Eric Ciotti, declared on Sunday December 17 to AFP that “At this point we can’t talk about agreement”.

While the deputies adopted a motion to dismiss At immigration billby 270 votes against 265decided to bring together deputies and senators withina joint joint commission (CMP). LFI deputies fear “manipulations” And “shenanigans”, between the majority and the right who are in the majority within this joint joint commission. This is made up of three elected officials from the LR group, two from the centrist Union and RDPI groups and two socialists from the Senate. On the other, four deputies come from the majority, one from the LR group, a deputy from the RN and one from France insoumise. The composition of this body could give rise to fears of toughening of the text of the immigration bill.
