Will the freedom to abort soon enter the Constitution? The vote in the National Assembly will take place on Tuesday January 30.
A few minutes before the debate, around a hundred demonstrators, left-wing elected officials and feminist associations gathered in front of the National Assembly. The objective is to demonstrate their determination to include voluntary termination of pregnancy (abortion) in the Constitution. Éric Dupont-Moretti appears before the deputies in the hemicycle to underline the importance of the bill. “The freedom to have an abortion is not a freedom like any other because it allows women to decide their future”underlined the Minister of Justice.
Protecting the right to abortion
From then on, speeches followed one another for the constitutionalization of abortion. The challenge is to protect the right to abortion, which is being called into question in the United States and other European countries. Several deputies point out the threat represented by the National Rally. The latter indicate that they are not opposed to abortion but to its constitutionalization. The solemn vote of deputies will be held on Tuesday January 30.
