Will the Borne government be overthrown?

After the use of article 49-3 of the Constitution, in order to adopt the pension reform, the future of the text is, Monday, March 20, called into question by the filing of two motions of censure. One, transpartisan, filed by the group Liberties, independents, overseas territories and territories (LIOT) and carried by the deputy Charles de Courson, and the other brought by the group Rassemblement national (RN). If one of the two motions were voted by an absolute majority in the National Assembly, the text of the reform would be purely and simply canceled, and the government of Elisabeth Borne would resign.

A complicated five-year continuation

Although the chances are slim, mathematically speaking, for one of the two motions to be voted on by the deputies, this political episode will leave its mark.

“You failed to gather, you failed to convince”, proclaims the deputy Charles de Courson during his speech to defend the motion of his group. Because it is indeed a political crisis that the executive is currently experiencing, caused by the government’s recourse to 49-3 last Thursday, in order to pass, without a vote, the pension reform. “We must not let the situation deteriorate”, warns an adviser, while a new day of inter-union mobilization is planned for this week. The Head of State should also speak soon to, no doubt, try to calm the political and social climate, and look to the future.
