Two years after slapping comedian Chris Rock on the Oscars stage in 2022, actor Will Smith continues to face the repercussions of his action. The foundation he created with his wife is on the verge of closing its doors due to lack of donations, reports the magazine Variety.
Since the incident that occurred during the 94e Oscar ceremony, the Will And Jada Smith Family Foundation saw its number of donations decrease by more than 80% in one year, reveal figures analyzed by Variety. While in 2020 and 2021 the annual total donations were around $2 million, in 2022 it only reached $366,000.
Major donors, including American Airlines, stopped supporting the organization following Will Smith’s action.
According to Varietythe foundation would have taken steps to put an end to its activities.
Created in 1996, it has, in recent years, helped support various causes, including the American Film Institute and the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.
