Jacques Tanguay had a very clear recommendation to make to the city of Quebec on Tuesday morning: “The only advice I would like to give is that I hope that, in a few years, the statue of Patrick will be found with the other super stars that we have around our very beautiful place.”

Mr. Tanguay obviously mentioned the possibility of Patrick Roy joining the works of art in homage to Jean Béliveau, Guy Lafleur, Réal Cloutier and Joe Malone, at Place Jean-Béliveau.
“Clearly, Patrick will have been a great hockey player in Quebec, recognized the chief operating officer of the Sports and Entertainment Group of Quebecor, Martin Tremblay. What he has just given to the fans of Quebec and the Quebec Remparts, Patrick is unmatched as a coach. He is a builder. Jacques and Patrick will always be the two greatest builders of the Quebec Remparts. The Remparts are at the heart of the city’s hockey culture and I imagine that the City of Quebec and the government will do the right thing. On our side, we will honor Patrick and Jacques correctly but, yes, they deserve to be honored correctly by the City and the government for what they have done.

A page turns
For his part, the mayor of Quebec, Bruno Marchand, did not advance on possible tributes to Tanguay and Roy, but he wanted to underline the importance of their involvement for the city.
“It’s a page that turns. I think the recent successes amplify the importance of leaving, not that their commitment in recent years is not significant. […] We don’t get to that level if we don’t have committed people, people who bring mobilization and who carry the club on their shoulders in addition to making it shine. Jacques’ contribution is invaluable, as is that of Patrick Roy to the influence of Quebec. You have to have Quebec in your heart to do this for so long. He didn’t need it and could have gone golfing and travelled, but he did it because he loved Quebec and the Remparts,” he said.
