On the eve of an explanation at the summit of Prati di Tivo, the favorites of the Tour of Italy will compete remotely, Friday May 9, during the first time trial of this edition. 40 kilometers alone in Umbria between Foligno and Perugia with a complicated finish (6.6 km at 4.1%) and slopes of up to 16% at the start of the climb. A course that could benefit the leaders who aim for the general more than the chrono specialists.

The stage run on the white paths on Thursday did not upset the general classification, despite some attacks from the favorites. Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) still 46 seconds ahead of Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers). The Welshman, second in Cesena and Monte Lussari during the times run last year at the Giro, will try to gain time from the Slovenian and distance himself from the competition. On the French side, Alex Baudin (Decathlon-AG2R), 13th overall, 1’40” behind Pogacar, will be the last to start from Foligno, at the end of the afternoon.
