By imposing taxes on the import of Chinese vehicles, the European Union has embarked on a tough trade battle with China. Beijing quickly reacted with the same measures concerning products coming from Europe.
They arrive on our roads with the ambition of conquering France and Europe. Chinese cars are becoming more and more numerous with more than 36,000 new registrations in the country last year. Attractive in price and ultra-technological, they are as reliable as European cars. In a dealership, they attract new customers. The price is the major argument for people who are thinking of buying the Chinese electric vehicle.
On average, Chinese vehicles are 20 to 40% cheaper than European models according to several user associations. Prices which should remain attractive despite a new customs tax soon to be imposed by the European Commission. China’s gigantic production capacity may explain the low prices. Chinese manufacturers also control almost their entire production chain, such as batteries. Chinese cars already represent almost 3% of the European market with an increase of 79% over one year.
