He finally took three days to make his decision. After his conviction on appeal in the case known as the slap in the face of the metropolis, Wilfried Schwartz let it be known that he resigned as mayor of La Riche.
He will “serenely prepare his defense”
In a press release this Friday evening, his cabinet indicates that this decision has been taken “in order to preserve the interests of the Ville de la Riche, the projects it carries out and the actions it carries out”. This one “must allow him to calmly prepare his defense in the context of the appeal in cassation initiated on September 21 last”.
Last Tuesday, in fact, he was once again sentenced on appeal to six months of ineligibility and a fine of 3,000 euros for having slapped his former chief of staff in the metropolis of Tours in June 2021. He subsequently announced appeal in cassation.
He keeps all his other mandates
Wilfried Schwartz will remain a councilor. Pending the election of a new mayor, the interim is ensured by the first deputy Filipe Ferreira-Pousos. The now ex-mayor of La Riche also remains vice-president of the metropolis of Tours in charge of mobility, president of the Syndicat des Mobilités de Touraine and county councillor.
