The trial for the assassination of Father Hamel will open on Monday February 14. The alleged accomplices will be tried for having exchanged with the terrorists who slaughtered the priest during a mass on July 26, 2016 in Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray (Seine-Maritime). But why pick on a clergyman? The judicial investigation revealed some answers.

A terrorist attack in the middle of Mass in a quiet town… Why was Father Hamel targeted? On July 26, 2016, the man of the Church celebrates a mass when he is taken hostage by two terrorists with a handful of faithful. Roseline Hamel, Father Hamel’s sister, then says: “I firmly believe that I will see my brother again”. But the two assailants force a faithful to film the assassination of the priest, who will be slaughtered by the terrorists.

The orderer of the assassination came from Mosul

The two criminals, aged 19, will be killed by the police. They had met only four days earlier and had been exchanging messages via social media, calling for mass killings. The investigators discovered that this order came from Mosul (Iraq), from a certain Rachid Kassim. Probably killed by a drone, the latter will not be present during the trial but three men will be tried for having exchanged with the terrorists.
