Since the announcement of the death of Alexeï Navalny on Friday February 16, his mother has been searching for his body tirelessly. She went to the penal colony where he was serving his sentence. His mother leaves with an official document confirming the death of her son but she was unable to see his remains. Although she went to the morgue, the body could not be found. “We are still waiting for the official death certificate“, said Kira Yarmysh, spokesperson for Alexeï Navalny.
Gatherings in honor of Alexei Navalny banned
The family is asking for his body. The commission of inquiry promises that an autopsy is underway and that the results will be released next week. In Moscow, the capital, hundreds of residents turned out to lay flowers in his honor. However, tributes are prohibited. No less than 340 demonstrators were arrested on Saturday February 17 in Moscow, according to a Russian human rights NGO.
