why the actor did not move to the United States after winning the Oscar

In seven to eight, Sunday March 12, 2023, Audrey Crespo-Mara faced Jean Dujardin in the last part of the show. The actor was asked about some of the choices he made after winning the Best Actor Oscar in 2011 for his lead role in The Artist. “You have the Oscar, you have to leave this country. Well no! As we hear: he got the Oscar, he will necessarily freak out. Well no! We are not at all obliged to freaking out, if you’re more or less educated, if you’re not too stupid… It was going very well before the Oscar and it’s still going very well because I try to be consistent with my choices , but it was never the Holy Grail”, he explained.

His dream was never to settle across the Atlantic but to meet Jean-Paul Belmondo. With his wife Nathalie Péchalat and his two daughters, Jeanne and Alice, the actor moved away from Paris, in the suburbs on the side of Saint-Cloud, (where he married the ex-figure skater in May 2018, editor’s note). A city in which he feels today “less oppressed”.

Jean Dujardin readily admits this: he never had any American ambitions. “I don’t think a French actor can play well in English. I don’t take pleasure in acting in English”. Moreover, it was in France that he had his “best roles”. “I like to like this country, and I like to say it because I think the biggest problem of this country is that it does not like itself”.

A beautiful declaration of love to France for the greatest pleasure of those who appreciate the interpreter of Brice of Nice. Besides, he will soon be at the cinema in the film, On the dark paths directed by Denis Imbert.
