A dispute set to drag on. The legal committee of the Professional Football League (LFP) ordered Paris Saint-Germain, on Thursday, September 12, to pay its former player, Kylian Mbappé, the 55 million euros claimed by the latter. This sum corresponds to 36 million euros in bonuses and 19 million in salaries dating from the months of April, May and June 2024. This legal committee thus asked the club to settle these arrears within eight days, which the Parisian club refuses. Kylian Mbappé “can now choose either to reach an agreement or to go to the labour court”, warned PSG in a statement. A decision that is hardly surprising since the PSG is within its rights.
“In light of the limits of the legal competence of the LFP commission to take a complete decision on this matter, it must now be brought before another jurisdiction”indicates PSG in the same press release. Indeed, the legal commission of the LFP “cannot replace the industrial tribunal, since in France, everything relating to labor law is a matter of public policy”, popularizes Christophe Bertrand, lawyer at the Bertrand firm. “In the event of non-compliance with a decision of one of the League’s committees, continues the lawyer, There may be disciplinary sanctions against the club. But this mechanism has its limits since the subject falls under the jurisdiction of the industrial tribunal.”
