To succeed in writing, you have to put yourself in the right conditions. And it is undoubtedly not Albert Camus, Gustave Flaubert, or even Honoré de Balzac who would say the opposite if they had the possibility. But even today’s writers can confirm this. Besides, Maxime Chattam
confirmed it during
his passage in Click
this Thursday, November 9, 2023.
Faustine Bollaert’s companion was questioned by Pauline Clavière, replacement for Mouloud Achour, about her rituals for writing her novels. “There are a lot of rumors circulating around your way of writing, to immerse you in your world, quite cringe. There are a whole bunch of things, why do you have to put yourself in a particular atmosphere?”the journalist asked the 47-year-old author.

Maxime Chattam’s office worries those close to him
“Actually, part of it comes from the office I have”confirmed Maxime Chattam before specifying: “I have made an office over the decades where there are very strange objects. Which is a kind of large museum, a bit of a cabinet of curiosities at the end of the 19th century. There is wood, lights everywhere. There is a mummy Egyptian, a stuffed werewolf two meters high. There are objects from all over the world, from all periods, and in this context, I like to write”.
The companion of Faustine Bollaert
confides, however, that he does not need “That”for writing. This special desk simply serves “accelerator”. He also conditions his brain with incense in order to smell a specific scent and allow his brain to “in his bubble”. “If I have to write in the depths of a hotel room in Poland, it’s happened to me, I do it but it’s slower and more complicated”, he admitted. Faustine Bollaert’s companion recognizes that these little rituals raise questions from those around him: “So yes, there is this office and I had fun sometimes putting up photos of objects, and people were a bit either fascinated or worried about my mental health”. But the author assures him, everything is fine on this side.
