The Ballon d’Or award ceremony will be held on the evening of Monday, November 29. French fans erected Karim Benzema as a favorite, to succeed Zinedine Zidane, the last French player to win the trophy. At his side, two profiles are also expected: PSG player Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski, the player of Bayern Munich.
The condemnation of Karim Benzema in the context of the sextape, will in all likelihood not be an obstacle to its eligibility. “We have to separate what happened on the legal benches, and what is happening with the French football team (…) and especially his incredible journey with Real Madrid”, explains Jacques Vendroux, the former sports director of Radio France. Lionel Messi already has six Golden Balls behind him, but is no slouch. Since 2008, the Argentine player has monopolized the title with Cristiano Ronaldo.
