She hopes to overshadow Donald Trump. Nikki Haley, former governor of South Carolina (United States) and ambassador to the United Nations, appears to be a moderate. At 51, the Republican nevertheless intends to win the primary race with her conservative ideas. Her supporters see her as a reasonable alternative to Donald Trump. “She has convictions, and she always tries to find a compromise”says one of them.

Opinionated and determined, in debates Nikki Haley responds firmly when attacked, but always with a dose of humor. She was not predestined for politics. The daughter of Indian immigrants, she was first an accountant in her parents’ clothing store, before becoming involved with the Republican Party.
She is the first woman to be elected governor of South Carolina. She became known under Donald Trump in 2016, for her role as uncompromising ambassador to the UN. A conservative, Nikki Haley is particularly uncompromising on immigration and the issue of abortion.
