He is Paris Saint-Germain’s second winter recruit. After the signing of central defender Lucas Beraldo, another Brazilian arrived in the capital on Thursday January 25. As announced by Radio France the day before, Gabriel Moscardo, 18, has officially signed up for five seasons. He will only join PSG next summer since he is both on loan to the club that sold him, Corinthians, and affected by a serious injury to his left foot which requires a surgical interview.

The French champions are making a bet for the future, betting on a professional player for only six months but who is – according to the Brazilian newspaper O Globo – “Corinthians’ most promising player”. The daily even ranked Gabriel Moscardo third among the biggest revelations of the year in Brazil, behind Endrick, who will join Real Madrid next summer, and… Lucas Beraldo, who is now his teammate at PSG.

A reinforcement to polish

Very promising, Gabriel Moscardo still lacks experience. Licensed since he was 12 years old with Corinthians, he played his very first professional match on June 29, in the Copa Libertadores against the Uruguayan club Liverpool. The Brazilian has since started 21 meetings with the Timao. If in the game, his 85 meter allows him to express the qualities of a number 6, to the point of being regularly compared to Casemiro, the “prospect” is according to him capable of evolving “like a number 8”For “project and attack”despite some difficulties observed during construction.

The Olympics in the viewfinder

With this transfer to the French capital, Gabriel Moscardo hopes to convince Ramon Menezes, the coach of the future Brazilian Olympic team, to invite him to the Games next summer. Called up last September, he has not tasted this level since a minute played during the defeat of the young Auriverdes in Morocco (0-1).

His first career goal scored with a heavy strike from the edge of the box against Dimitri Payet’s Vasco da Gama last month could however launch him, while the Seleçao will attempt a three-way pass unprecedented at the Games, after having conquered the gold in Rio and Tokyo.

Administration student at university

Until very recently, Gabriel Moscardo juggled between his studies in administration at the Paulista University of São Paulo and his training. Enrolled at university in June when he was not yet a member of the Corinthians first team, he gradually began to be recognized on campus when he discovered the professional world. But not enough to distract him since he has become accustomed to requests for autographs despite more frequent use of videoconferences due to travel with his club, as reported O Globo in October.

What does it matter if everyone agrees that he will not finish his course – supposed to last another two to three years – the community is the type concerned: after a match with the Corinthians U20s, he even rushed to class to get the best grade in his class thanks to a masterful presentation on Martin Luther King.
