Who blames the regularly vandalized Revest streetlights?

It’s a real mystery! For more than a month, the streetlights of Revest-les-Eaux (Var) have been vandalized. The power box located in the foot of the post is open, the electric cables are out (but not stolen), fuses are sometimes removed. The plates that protect the electrical system of the lampposts disappear after being unscrewed. Fifteen lampposts suffered the same fate. They have since been protected by rubalise, which is also regularly torn off.

This act is extremely dangerous for the author or authors alert Olivier Ruiz, brigadier of the municipal police: “There is no differential on the public lighting electrical system. The person who comes to put their hands on the cables at night when the street lamp is working therefore takes a big risk. And even if the vandalized lights are immediately put out of service, it remains dangerous for children, for example, who would like to touch the cables”.

Why ?

Another consequence: part of the village car park and the banks of the Hameau de Dardennes are immersed in the dark. “The children who take the bus early in the morning to go to school are in the dark. It’s the same in the evening when I walk my dog. Without public lighting, it’s dangerous” testifies Julien, resident of the Hameau de Dardennes, who seeks above all to understand the motivations of such an act of vandalism: “Why are they doing this? What does it bring? Is it to escape the lighting and do something illegal? Is it a person bothered by the light from the streetlights? I don’t understand! “

“Just a game?”

These mysterious damage to streetlights, which cost several hundred euros to the municipality, annoy the mayor of Revest, Ange Musso: “We are not dealing with cable trafficking since they are left behind. So there is no profit motive. So I’m afraid it’s just a game to annoy people. But it’s about a dangerous game and an ubiquitous situation that is really starting to tire us”.

While waiting to solve this enigma, and if you have any information you can contact the municipal police of Revest at 04.94.98.19.92.
