United States: whistleblower points out safety problems with Boeing planes
United States: whistleblower points out safety problems with Boeing planes
(France 2)
According to a whistleblower who worked for Boeing for ten years, the aircraft manufacturer’s quality controls are insufficient, and 1,000 planes in circulation could experience failures.
The Boeing company is once again at the heart of turbulence. A whistleblower accuses the manufacturer of having accelerated its construction process, to the detriment of the safety of its planes. He points to failures present on the Dreamliner 787 and 777 models. In a letter addressed to the American civil aviation authority, the lawyers of this engineer, who worked for Boeing for ten years, mention 1,000 planes in traffic potentially affected.
A pressure 165 times higher than recommendations
“Boeing quality controls ignore about 33% of defects“, they write in their letter. According to the whistleblower, parts of the fuselage of the Boeing 787s, located at the front and rear of the aircraft, would have been deformed to be assembled, even if it meant being subjected to pressure 165 times higher than recommendations. These accusations were rejected by Boeing, but come at a time when the group is facing a succession of problems: a door torn off in mid-flight, a wheel falling during takeoff or the cover of an engine coming loose.
